    My First Etsy Sale
    May/30/06 10:51 AM |Etsy |Permalink

Awesome, I had my first Etsy sale this weekend from Miss Nina also known as übercherry, she’s got an Etsy shop of her own, you guys should check it out cool stuff over there. I’m very happy she enjoyed my work, she picked up some Note Cards over at my Etsy shop. I’m getting those ready for her as we speak, I’ll post a photo as soon as they are ready. Thanks again Nina - icon_smile

I’m hoping to get around to putting up some new prints and cards over at my shop in the next few days but If anyone has any suggestions on other items they’d like to see I’d love to hear about it. Comments are great, leave one.

Well looking through some of my portfolio this weekend I came across this shot of an old court house in Nevada. I thought it was a fun image, it reminded me of my days growing up in a tiny town in Mississippi. I swear everything looks old, the history in these old walls make you wonder what interesting stories they could tell. I figured I’d share this image with you since I enjoyed it hopefully you will too. It might just remind you of place in your past, please tell me what it reminds you of, I’d love to hear about it.

I’ve finally arrived and as you can see I’m still settling in. I’m still pretty new to this blogging thing but since I started things have been looking promising. I feel more creative and more open to new ideas. So the blog has moved to wordpress with more choices and customizable abilities I feel more at home. I plan on posting more images in the coming days while I get my creative wheels cranking. I hope you’ll bear with me as I get use to my surroundings with this new format. Comments are always welcome, and appreciated. I’d love to hear what you think of the new set up, not totally different but cleaner I think.

    Aiden Dreams

Here’s a kind of dark piece, a bit too much red for my taste. I was playing around with some of my sons books he’s been asking me to read to him over the last few days and well I started taking some photos. It started quite differently and I’m not sure how I feel about it. In all honestly I usually love about 10% of all the images I create, tough critic I guess. What I was seeing in my head isn’t exactly what I’m presenting here but that may or may not be a good thing. I do enjoy how part of the image seems to be blurry or on fire, an interesting effect. I have noticed an interesting phenomena that a lot of my work lately has been based around my son and his toys and other items that all tie right back to him. I suppose my life is really based around his life and his wants and needs. I imagine all parents can relate to that. When you sit down and look around your life is somehow engulfed by “Little People” and “Noggin” at least for the parents of toddlers. Well enough ranting, here’s a new piece to pick apart, remember comments are always welcome and appreciated.

    National Language
    May/23/06 10:42 AM |Personal |Permalink

Now this is far from my usual topics on this blog but I have been very interested on the outcome of this vote. I’m a native born Puerto Rican and even though I left the island when I was 13 years old I still have family there and it’s my home and very dear to my heart. I speak, write and understand Spanish and English very well and wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m a little disappointed on the decision to make English the “National Language”, it would seem they’ve forgotten Puerto Rico once again.

I received this email today from family in Puerto Rico I thought I’d share it with you and I’ll leave it at that.

    NOTE:
The below email and link are not meant to represent facts on the subject of a National Language but an interesting observation.

Subject: Senate Votes to Set English as National Language

WASHINGTON, May 18 — The Senate voted on Thursday to designate English as the national language. In a charged debate, Republican backers of the proposal, which was added to the Senate’s immigration measure on a 63-to-34 vote, said that it was equivalent to establishing a formal national anthem or motto and that it would simply affirm the pre-eminence of English.

“We’re free to say what we want, speak what we want, but it is our national language,” said Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee. The amendment was proposed by Senator James M. Inhofe, Republican of Oklahoma.

    ATTENTION: ADVERTENCIA: ALERTA: ALARMA:

Residents of Puerto Rico……effective on January 1, 2007, the
language of Spanish will be eliminated. All violators will be dealt
with according to each individual circumstance but all will be
processed for deportation procedures either to Mexico, Dominican or Republic or Spain…W-2 Income Statement will be taken into consideration for the processing procedure…

Television shows such as La Comay, Sabado Gigante, No Te Duermas will be translated to the English Language before viewing…La Primera Hora and El Nuevo Dia will be appropriately changed to The First Hour and A New Day…

December 31, 2006 will be your last opportunity to talk and converse with your loved ones, your family, and your boy and girl friends in your own language before the change over.

Have a great future Puerto Rico……This message has been approved by the PNP Party of Puerto Rico, the Don’t Push It.Com Website of Pedro Rossello and Luis Fortuno’s Web Site….What Me Worry.Com…

    You Forgot Puerto Rico!

    Dead Flower

Another Week, Another Monday. . . Here’s an image I shot of a cute little flower my wife got from some of her students after I accidentally killed it.(oops, sorry) I killed it on accident I swear, reaching over it to get something I somehow broke the stem in half. Well here’s my attempt at trying to save it . . . hope you like it. Comments are always welcome.

    How Fun

    greeting cards
I decided to make some notecards/postcards out of some of the prints I’ve been doing recently. They turned out a lot better than I thought they would. I posted a few on my Etsy Store, go check them out and let me know what you think. They aren’t really postcards as in they aren’t printed on a heavyweight paper but they are on archival paper so it would work for framing the piece is one was so inclined. I did include a nice white wove envelope with the cards to help incase anyone wanted to mail them. I even printed the title of each piece on the corresponding envelope. I’m proud of my little project, hope someone likes them. Comments are always welcome, so comment away.

    Lost Bunny

Well I gave this image a shot and it turned out a bit dark. I tried to just tackle this piece without much thought other than create an image that was visually pleasing to me. I kind of like it, in some aspects. The colors are mild and not too wild and there’s some texture to the image that I like. Overall I don’t think it matters what it is but it’s a step in the direction I want to go. The image is actually made up of about 4 or 5 total images. Some I used for color and textures, if you look closely you might be able to make some of the other images out. I hope to have some more simple concept images to post in the coming days. As always your comments are always welcome, feedback is very useful.

“Art & Fear” (David Bayles, Ted Orland)

Still working on the bunny, but I wanted to drop a quick line about this book. I was looking for my wife’s old pregnancy books since she’s getting her motherly urges now that she’s pregnant again, anyway back on point, I found this book called Art and Fear that I had bought when I was in college. It was actually recommended to me by my old life-drawing professor. It’s a quick read only about 120 pages and full of really interesting content on the types of things that hold most of us back from really going out and being artists. It has helped me through some tough times and it’s funny that I ran into it today as things in my creative life are in my opinion looking better than they have in quite a while. Here’s a quick little excerpt from the book that I find quite amusing - ” Talent is a snare and a delusion. In the end, the practical questions about talent come down to these. Who cares? Who would know? and What difference would it make? An the practical answers are: Nobody, Nobody and None.” - Art & Fear p.28

Anyway work was crazy today and then I got home to try and do some of my work. I’ve been going at it for a while, anyway I’m posting this image I shot today of a bunny. Prints of My Work

    Jen and flowers

This is a piece from a few years ago, I thought I’d put it up for fun. It’s one of my favorites!
I’ve been considering putting up some prints of my work up on the etsy store, but I’m not sure. I usually only make prints for myself of my digital pieces since they are meant to be seen through layers with back lighting. However I’ve had some interest for prints of these pieces. I was thinking I could do a small run of 25 prints of my Conceptions Series. Maybe I could also put up some black and white prints to try it out. I’ve also been considering getting back into handcoloring, I haven’t done that in a long time and I always had so much fun with it. Well any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I had been hearing a lot about www.etsy.com so I checked it out today. It turns out it’s a pretty cool place and lots of interesting work floating around. So anyway I thought it would be nice to have some of my pieces still available for sale and putting them up on the store. Maybe who knows over the next few months I’ll have some new exciting pieces to post as well. Well I’d like to invite everyone to stop by my new store and check out some pieces, comments are always welcome.

    Let Me Out

    Aiden at the door

My son was a little upset today over having to come inside. I hate to take advantage of his little moment of unhappiness but creativity was calling. Anyway, I had a little fun with it - not my usual way of portraying an image but I wanted to step away from my typical images. I think it turned out alright, the hair was fun but I’m not quite sure if it’s a bit too much, some blatant photoshop filters but sometimes they work. I like the use of the outlandish colors here it seems to contrast what is actually happening in the image.

Yeah go figure I couldn’t get anything to come together yesterday. I took about 10-20 photographs yesterday that I wanted to work with but nothing fell into place. I tried new things I looked at old photographs it just wasn’t coming together, it all looked like the same crap. I’m going to take some photos this weekend and just post what I see, time to go back to the basics.

It seems that overnight the image I posted last night has grown on me some. I’m starting to appreciate it a lot more, there’s something interesting happening. Anyway I hope to have something to post later tonight I’m working on something fun and random today, but in the mean time I’d like to post this image that I worked one a few weeks ago I like it and haven’t really shown it to anybody, so here you go. Comments are always welcome!

    A Little Better

    139413388_0f49c7f9a8

Well, this is a little better. Not always a fan of cropping but it does come in handy to remove the not so great portions and leave the useful ones. I like the contrast between ligth and dark here, more interesting this way. It’s still a bit too much for me, too much information and it doesn’t say anything. Strike one I guess, back to the drawing board.

    Something To Play With

    Little Wings

I started taking some random photos yesterday and tried a few things. I wasn’t too happy with what I came up with so I’m not even going to post it. However today I gave it another shot, not extatic with this but it’s a little more interesting. I’m not too happy with the computer graphics colors but I do think there’s some hope still. Let me think about this. . . .

    Trial and Error

    Lost

I’ve been working on this piece for a few weeks and it resembles a bit what I’ve done in the past. I feel like I’m doing the same thing over and over again. I’m having a hard time moving away from repetition. I’d like to move in an entirely different direction over the coming months, maybe something more traditional. Anyway here’s the image I’d appreciate any comments. I do like the image somewhat but its just not strong enough.
